William “Bill” Winfield Scott Obituary

William “Bill” Winfield Scott was born December 4, 1932 in Monticello, Florida. He passed away in Macon, Georgia, on February 28, 2024, at the age of 91.

Growing up, Bill lead a life of adventure and freedom, passing down a book full of stories to his family of his childhood escapades. He met his wife, Sally, in high school and they were happily married for 71 years. They lived in Jacksonville where they raised their daughters, Nancy, Helen and Madeline, in their home on Shady Drive. They later moved their home and business to Tifton, Georgia, where Bill ran W.B. Fleming Company for more than 60 years. He was much loved by the community, his many friends, and family, and was lovingly referred to as ‘Doodad’ by his grandchildren. Bill and Sally had a passion for travel, with Bill always at the helm making meticulous plans for his entire family. He especially loved Europe and spent many trips helping to collect antiques and art for Sally’s antique business. Bill was a talented framer and lamp maker, selling his creations through Sally’s shop. His work can also be found in homes of all of his children, grandchildren, and friends. A wonderful father and Doodad, Bill will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughters Helen Correll (Ben), of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Madeline Thompson, of Macon, Georgia, and son-in-law Chuck Baldwin, of Tifton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Scott, and oldest daughter, Nancy Scott Baldwin. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Scott Correll, Madeline Jarnagin (Jake), Harry Correll, Charlie Baldwin (Christina), and Will Thompson.  As well as his great grandchildren, Eleanor Jarnagin, Ford Jarnagin, Sarah Baldwin and Margaret Baldwin.
