Wesley Holley Long, Jr., 91, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tim Bagwell officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior in the Round Room at the church. The family asks that masks be worn at the visitation and service.
Holley graduated in 1947 from Lanier High School, where he played basketball, and then attended Mercer University. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Heidelburg, Germany, serving as a Military Policeman. He served as the comptroller for the city of Macon, until he went to work for Anderson Chemical Company in January 1967, retiring in June 1992. He enjoyed playing golf in many senior golf groups following retirement. Holley was active in the Macon Exchange Club and a faithful, lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he served in many leadership roles.
Holley is survived by his daughter, Cherie Boston, of Macon, Georgia; son, Steve Long (Nancy), of Pensacola, Florida; daughter, Nancy L. McDade (Len), of Lillian, Alabama; grandchildren, Katie Roberts (Eric), of Macon, Georgia, Max Boston, of Atlanta, Georgia, Marileigh Poole (Austin), of Roswell, Georgia, Russell Long (Sarah), of Pensacola, Florida, Holly McDade, of Lillian, Alabama, Randi McDade, of Gainesville, Georgia, Candler McDade, of Lillian, Alabama; three great-grandchildren, Wesley and William Roberts, and Montgomery Poole; and cousin, Julie Ferguson (Bob), of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Long; and parents, Wesley Holley “Tech” Long and Katie McCullough Long.
