Wanda Joyce (Middlebrooks) Bagwell

Mrs. Wanda Bagwell, 82, of Jones County, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

Mrs. Bagwell was born in the little town of Bradley, Georgia.  She graduated from Jones County High School in 1959, where she played on the school’s 1958 State Championship Basketball team and caught the eye of her future husband, Billy Bagwell.  Billy and Wanda were married November 23, 1961.  

After starting their family, Mrs. Bagwell began work at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.  Later, she and Billy opened Payne Mill Antiques in the old mill village of Payne City, where she proudly served families for thirty years.  As a talented artist, Mrs. Bagwell enjoyed working with pastels, sketching with charcoal, and painting with oils.  She was also known to immerse herself in a good local mystery while on vacation.  Wanda will be missed by the congregation of Ingleside Baptist Church in Macon, where she was a long-time, faithful member.  Above all, she will be remembered as a woman who loved being with her family, whether having fun at the ballpark or just spending time at home working in her yard.

Mrs. Bagwell is preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Bagwell, Sr.; her daughter, Rebecca Joyce Sears; and her brother, Kelly Middlebrooks.  She is survived by her sons, William O. “Bunky” Bagwell, Jr. (Angela), of Gray, and Britt Bagwell (Brittany), of Jones County; sister, Cecile Lunsford, of Sharpsburg, Georgia; grandchildren, Will Bagwell, Leven Sears (Leah), Tyler Bagwell (Wendy), Gavin Whitfield, Garrett Whitfield, Camille Whitfield, Gracie Bagwell, Mattie Bagwell; great-grandchild, Brady Bagwell; and brother-in-law, Don C. Bagwell, of Columbus, Georgia.
