Sylvia grew up in Winter Haven, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Wyllys and the late Catherine Dickson Wyllys. She loved living on the lakes in Winter Haven and skiing in the ski show at Cypress Gardens. After graduating from Winter Haven High School in 1956, she moved to Macon, GA to attend Wesleyan College. At a Bons Hommes tea dance, she met the love of her life, Toof Boone, and the two were married in June 1962. Sylvia and Toof lived briefly in Philadelphia where he attended the University of Pennsylvania and she taught at the esteemed Haverford School for boys. Following their return to Macon, Sylvia and Toof built a life together raising their three daughters, Mary Catherine, Anna and Kate in their home of 31 years in historic Stanislaus.
Sylvia was the epitome of the Southern lady, and she was an active member of Macon society. She served as secretary of the Junior League of Macon, board member of the Macon Historical Society and a member of the DAR. She chaired the Wesleyan Horse Show, which she considered a large accomplishment because she was petrified of horses. She loved to volunteer at Stratford Academy, where her daughters attended school and where she served as the room mother, chairman of the Halloween carnival and organized the first Grandparents Day celebration. As someone who loved history and had an appreciation for beauty, she gained a vast knowledge for antiques and porcelain. This love led her to study at the Forum in Colonial Williamsburg with dear friends. Always the most gracious host, Sylvia was a master gardener, entertainer and cook. She gave generously of her time and talents to her family, her friends, and to those who were sick or in need. She had a deep love for the Lord and was a beautiful example of God’s love to all who knew her. She was a long-time member of Vineville United Methodist Church and associate member of Blowing Rock United Methodist Church in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Sylvia was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was happiest when she was with her family, but most especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Dr. Toof Boone, her parents, Robert Henry Wyllys and Catherine Dickson Wyllys Parks; much loved stepfather, Austen Owens Parks, and brother, Robert “Bobby” Henry Wyllys Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Catherine Boone Council (Ward) of Marietta, Georgia, Anna Boone Haley (Josh) of Oxford, Mississippi, and Kate Boone Reid (Will) of Oxford, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Robert Austen Council, Catherine Caroline Council, John Hunter Council, Austen Elliott Haley, Henry Rees Haley, Taylor Blair Schmidt-Fellner; sister, Susan Wyllys Wallace (Dick) of Savannah, Georgia ; brother-in-law, Robert Milton Boone (Nell) of Chattanooga,Tennessee; two nieces, Jennifer Boone West (Tommy), Susan Boone Drummond (David); and one nephew, Richard Wallace.
