Susan Rogers Obituary

Susan Sprayberry Rogers, 73, of Macon, GA, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022.  The family will greet friends Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Hart’s at the Cupola from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Private burial will be held at Arabi-Antioch Cemetery, Arabi, Georgia.  Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon GA 31201.

Susan “Susu” Rogers lived life to the fullest. Daughter of the late Jack and Edythe Sprayberry, Susan was born and raised in Rome, Ga. The Mountains were no match for Athens, though, and when the time came for Susan to go to college, she proudly attended the University of Georgia, where she was a cheerleader, calendar girl, and member of Phi Mu fraternity. Go Dawgs!

Susan married the love of her life, the late Monty Wendell Rogers, in 1983 and together they spent the next 25 years in Macon raising their family. It was her family, both by blood and close friendship, that put the color in Susan’s world; every inch of her home covered in pictures from the moments, both big and small, that she held most dear.

Susan’s professional career had many vibrant and successful chapters. She owned and operated Calloway Caterer, which arguably served the most delicious chicken salad then, or since. Many former Macon 6th graders and their parents will remember Susan as the owner of Dance League, Inc., where she taught the art of ballroom dancing for over 30 years. She was president of the Junior League and served on the Board of Trustees at Stratford Academy. An artist to her core, friends and family knew her as a constant creator: always painting, building, designing or dreaming up her next project.

Of all her accomplishments, her grandchildren may have been what she was most proud of. “Susu” was a hands-on, up-for-anything grandmother: dress up, board games, vacations or grandparents’ day, she was a fixture in the lives of her grandkids near and far. When asked to describe their Susu, “kind, loving, nice, awesome, amazing, caring and pretty” were just a few words chosen.

No matter what she was doing, Susan was the life of the party. Where she went, laughter and fun followed. Her mega-watt smile lit up every room, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Susan is survived by her children, Monty Chadd Rogers (Stephanie) of Cumming, Georgia, Molly Rogers Sims (Bo) of Macon, and Cason Alexander Rogers (Callie) of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Rhodes Rogers, Jack Rogers, Mary Marwood Sims, Carsie Sims, Amelia Sims, Shepherd Rogers, Ivy Rogers, and Daphne Rogers; brother, Tom Sprayberry (Teresa) of Santa Cruz, California; sister, Alice Nix (Gary) of Milton, Georgia; niece, Dagny Sprayberry; and nephews, Hank Nix (Sarah), and J.T. Nix (Carolina Blevins).

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Monty Wendell Rogers.
