Sara Jane Bradley Obituary

Sara Jane Bradley, age 93, resident of Carlyle Place, Macon, Georgia, passed away on August 8, 2020. Sara Jane was born April 19,1927 in Dublin, Georgia. In 1937, the family moved to Cochran, Georgia, where she grew up with her mother and father, Henry and Sara Griffin and her four siblings Beatrice, Bill, Peggy and Shirley. She graduated from Cochran High School in 1943 and went on to Middle Georgia College in Cochran and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics. She lived all of her adult life in Macon, Georgia. It was there she met and later married Joseph Rostron (Joe) Bradley on February 3, 1954. They raised their children Joseph Rostron (Brad) Bradley and Sara Douglas Bradley in Macon.

Sara Jane retired from T.D. Tinsley Elementary School after a thirty-year teaching career. She was a loving mother to her children and loved her family and friends. After retiring from teaching, her passions became genealogy and bridge.

Her genealogy research was presented for her membership in Daughters of the American Revolution and The National Society of Colonial Dames. She was considered one of the family historians and always hoped her love of the Griffin family history would be shared by future generations. Sara Jane was known throughout Macon for her bridge playing abilities. She considered herself a “serious” bridge player.

Sara Jane Bradley was a woman of faith. She was a member of Mulberry Methodist Church and even after moving to Carlyle Place, she was instrumental in bringing group communion services to the Methodist members who lived there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Rostron (Joe) Bradley; her son, Joseph Rostron (Brad) Bradley, Jr.; her parents William Henry Griffin, and Sara Alexander Griffin; her siblings Beatrice Griffin Waters, William Henry Griffin, Jr., Peggy Griffin Muldrow, and Shirley Griffin Hixson. Sara Jane was the last surviving Griffin sibling.

She is survived by her daughter, Sara Bradley Beck, son-in-law Steve Beck of Lawrenceville, Georgia and daughter-in-law Jayne Bailey Bradley of Grandview, Missouri; four grandchildren, Olivia Beck, Emily Beck, Mitchell Beck of Atlanta, Anna Kate Real and her husband, Isaac Real of Grandview, Missouri; and two great- grandchildren, Josiah and Adelyn Real of Grandview, Missouri.

Sara Jane Bradley will always be remembered for her positive attitude. She made friends easily and was a caring friend to many. We will all miss her easy smile and welcoming personality. She was a very special lady.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
