Ruth Durden Purvis Tew, 74, of Eatonton, died Saturday, November 21, 2020. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray, Georgia with Pastor Brian Durden, her great nephew, officiating.
The daughter of the late Tolie and Cathern Lavonia Beasley Durden, Ruth was born in Soperton, Georgia. She loved working in her yard and tending her beautiful rose bushes. She had a green-thumb and could bring any dying plant or flower back to life. A true southern lady, she loved cooking for her family and did not think there was a problem that a good home-cooked meal could not solve. She was so extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Most of all, Ruth loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well.
Ruth was preceded in death by husbands, James “Jim” Purvis and Thomas “Tommy” Tew and brothers, Bob Durden and Charles Durden.
Ruth will be dearly missed by her daughter, Halie White (Jimmy) of Gray; sons, Dwayne Sharp (Cindy) of Jones County, Tony Sharp of Macon, and Chad Sharp (Melissa) of Dublin, Georgia; grandchildren, Brandon Bridges (Whitney), Adaire Deriso, Tyler Bridges (Bridget), Harlie Sharp, Gage Sharp, Alicia Sharp, Shelby Sharp and Carson Sharp; bonus grandchildren, Brian White (Wendy), Kristy White (Charlie Iddins), Hali Stokes Simons, Gracli Stokes and Cari Stokes; 2 great grandchildren; 6 bonus great grandchildren; brother, Tony Durden of Eatonton; very special nephew, Tolie Durden (Misty) of Eatonton; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; and her little dog, Rocky.
