Richard L. Harris, 72, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. UPDATED Funeral Services are postponed due to weather and moved to 2:00PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Dasher Cemetery in Lake Park, Georgia with Ben White officiating. Family will greet friends between 6:00-8:00PM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, Virginia 22312. Mr. Harris was born April 13, 1944 in Athens, Georgia to the late William Douglass Harris, Sr. and Margaret LaRue Copeland Harris. He received his B.A. from Lipscomb University and his Masters from Middle Tennessee State University. After graduation he worked for Metro Nashville School System as a teacher, counselor, and administrator. Upon retiring from the school system, he went to work for Cumberland University in Administration. His love of history led him to work at Andrew Jackson's homeplace, The Hermitage, as a Historical Guide for many years. Mr. Harris moved to Macon in 2004 to become the primary care giver for his mother. He was a member of Thomaston Road Church of Christ. He played the organ and piano, loved to cook, read, travel, watch movies, collect family histories and antiques. Survivors include his brother, W. Douglass Harris, Jr. of Atlanta; sister, Peggy White (Ben) of Macon; niece, Cindy White Adrien (Dan) of Forsyth; nephew, Benjy White (Camille) of Macon; and great nieces and great nephews, Parker White, Ethan White, and Olivia Adrien.
