Mitzie Cribb Obituary

Mitzie Anne Cheek Cribb, 76, of Gray, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Hart’s on Cherry Street, followed by a funeral service on Friday, May 6, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m.

Strength. Empathy and warmth. A loving nature. A capacity for joy and tendency to laughter. A love of beauty and of art. And a wickedly good hand in the kitchen. All these traits ran through and defined her life.  It’s no wonder she became a nurse - earning her associates degree and becoming a registered nurse in Daytona.  She worked as a shift nurse at a number of hospitals in the southeast before moving to home health and finally case management. She was a caring and exceptional advocate for her patients, touching so many lives and inspiring more than a few to pursue a career in nursing.

She had a knack for gardening, and she came by this love no doubt through family – being the granddaughter of sharecroppers in Hawkinsville.  Her love of animals almost exceeded her love of family, and she was known to prepare meals specifically for her dog Atticus.  She was a devoted wife - enjoying over thirty years of happy marriage with the love of her life, Buster Cribb, who she has pined for since being widowed.  In her grief she found great solace in pottery, which she excelled at, taking classes at Macon Mud studios.  It was there she formed a tight knit group of supportive friends.  She was a loving, proud mother - to her three sons who she raised almost single-handedly and to her stepdaughter, who she loved like her own child.  Through her life she overcame much adversity and loss with grace and poise and a heart full of hope.

Mitzie was predeceased by her parents, James Warren, and Patricia Caldwell Cheek; brother, Gary Cheek; sister, Jackie Welch; and son, Larry Edward Webb.

Mitzie is survived by her sons, Dr. Charles Nathan Webb (Dr. Erika Lentini DMD) of Richmond, Virginia, and James Andrew Webb of Gray, Georgia; stepdaughter, Paige Soles (Bob) of Social Circle, Georgia; grandchildren, Travis Webb (Ashley) of Macon, Georgia, Taylor Callahan of Florida, Dakota Soles (Brooke) of Florida, and Arlo Webb, Wyeth Webb, and Agnes Webb of Virginia; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
