Miriam Salome Barnes Harris went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, April 30, 2023. She was 84 years old.
Miriam was born in Macon, Georgia to parents Sophie and Ernest V. Barnes. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Leigh Harris of Gilbert, South Carolina and nephew, Joel Barnes and niece Velvet Lynn Barnes, both of Jacksonville, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ernest V. Barnes, Jr., and her nephews, Bruce Barnes and Mark Barnes.
Miriam graduated from Newberry College with a Business Certificate, was employed by Bankers Health and Life Insurance Co. and Georgia Kaolin before becoming a homemaker. She returned to Macon, GA to care for her aging mother where she rejoined her home church, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. There she enjoyed singing in the choir and was an officer in her Sunday school class. Her Sunday school class was always like a second family to her. She loved playing the piano, singing, and listening to music. In her later years, Miriam moved from Georgia to South Carolina to be closer to her daughter. Miriam had a sweet and gentle spirit that will never be forgotten.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 5, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery at 1301 Riverside Dr, Macon, GA 31201.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Pantry and Clothes closet at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 390 Pierce Avenue Macon, GA 31204.
