Mickey Thompson, 50, of Gray, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Hart’s Jones County Chapel at 1:00PM, with Reverend Steve Johnson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the Ocmulgee Blacksmith Guild and was the owner of Mickey Thompson Custom Knives. As an accomplished bladesmith, he won the History Channel’s 100th episode of “Forged in Fire”. He was a member of the Waccamaw Indian Tribe of Anyor, South Carolina. Mr. Thompson retired from the U.S. Air Force as a highly decorated veteran of several operations in the Middle East. He was employed with Centurylink Telecommunications for the past 5 years.
Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Walter “Buck” Thompson, Jr. and Dorothy Christine Hatcher. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Thompson, of Gray; children, Brandon Thompson, Lee Edwards, Leanna Edwards, and Chris Green; siblings, Teresa Jones (Murray), of Cheraw, South Carolina, Alan Boatwright (Valerie), of Milton, Florida, and Tonya Boatwright Fowler, of Milton, Florida; nieces and nephews Keith Jones, Kelly Jones, Alexis Melancon, Justin Boatwright, Jonathan Herrera, Savannah Herrera and Austin Fowler; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and grand-pets, Huck, Nessi, Casper, Brillo, Georgia, Skyper, Leah, Thor, Pippa, and Stormy.
