Michael "Mike" Dennis Chitwood

 Michael Dennis Chitwood, affectionately known as Mike, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, in Macon, Georgia.   A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.

Born on November 22, 1960, in Quincy, Illinois, Mike was the son of the late Stephen and Emma Malone Chitwood.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patsy Edwards Chitwood, their three children, Michael David Chitwood (Andrea Bratzler) of Lawton, Oklahoma, Jessica Lee Hankins (Zachary) of Redding, California, and Rebecca Lynn Chitwood of Watertown, New York. He was the proud grandfather of Huttser Seth Naquin and Wesley Van Hankins. Mike will also be deeply missed by his best friend, Monte Steele, II, and his beloved cat, Dusty Chitwood.

Mike honorably served in the United States Navy, and it was during his time in the service that he met his wife, Patsy. They married in 1980 and made their home in Norfolk, Virginia. After his time in the Navy, Mike embarked on a successful career as an electrical maintenance technician and supervisor. His expertise and dedication to his work were well known and respected by his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mike was a man of many interests and talents. He was an accomplished woodcarver and took great pride in creating beautiful woodworking projects for his wife and daughters. He also held a brown belt in martial arts, which he pursued with the same passion and discipline he applied to all aspects of his life. Mike and Patsy shared a love for riding motorcycles, and they spent many happy hours exploring the open road together.

Adventurous and handy, Mike was always eager to take on new challenges and learn new skills. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great joy in spending time with his family. His warmth, humor, and unfailing support will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
