Mary-Neal Richerson Fullerton, 78, passed unexpectedly in her sleep Friday, February 3, 2023, at her home in Laguna Hills, CA. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the ancestral cemetery, Beech Springs Cemetery in Bullard, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Millsaps College (www.mbench.org/annualfund) are encouraged.
Mary-Neal was the daughter of the late Rev. William Robert Richerson and Mildred Johnston Richerson of Bullard, Georgia. She was the granddaughter of William Warren Johnston and Mary Lowe Johnston of Bullard. Mary-Neal grew up in Mississippi, however her mother's family home in Bullard was an anchor.
Mary-Neal is survived by her husband, Theo F. Fullerton, who she married in Macon 46 years ago. She is also survived by her brother, Robin Richerson, of Theriot, Louisiana, a niece and nephew, two great nieces, and two great nephews.
Mary-Neal received her BA from Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. She earned a PhD in German from Pennsylvania State University. She studied for a year in Germany under a grant from the German Marshall Fund and taught German at Penn State and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Mary-Neal subsequently established Inlingua School of Languages in San Diego, a branch of the Swiss organization. For 22 years she trained teachers internationally and in her own school to teach a very wide range of internationally spoken languages. She also served on numerous national and international committees and commissions as well as learning materials groups. Since retirement, she and her husband have enjoyed extensive international travel.
