Mark Stokes Obituary

Mark Stokes was born in Macon, Georgia, on June 2, 1965, and lived a very full and enriched life with family, friends and colleagues until his tragic and accidental death on July 27, 2019. Mark leaves behind Lisa, his lovely wife, friend and partner of nineteen years, his oldest daughter Sheena (David), his son Mark II (Sarah), and two youngest daughters Madison and Isabel.

As a young man, when his country needed him, Mark proudly, faithfully, and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps as an artillery weapons repair technician.  Mark later served as an F-15 Avionics Systems Specialist in the Air Force Reserve.

After finishing his tour of duty, Mark returned to the Macon area and went to work at YKK as his first job after serving in the military. Starting as a shift manager, Mark ultimately became the Plant Manager of the Brass Wire Plant before moving to Intergraph. Mark then began his Civil Service career at Robins AFB as a process analyst and later became a supervisory process analyst. Mark currently served as a logistics and project management specialist within the Aerospace Sustainment Directorate (ASD).

Despite his demanding career and varied outside interests, Mark always found it important to give back to his community and church in so many roles. He attended church regularly as a child and professed his faith during young adulthood, but fully committed himself to the Lord after he and Lisa married. He was an active member of Ingleside Baptist Church, where he joyfully and faithfully served alongside Lisa in the preschool ministry in the baby room.

It would indeed be remiss not to mention that one of Mark’s greatest and most cherished gifts was that his capacity to love.  He loved and cherished his wife, his children, his family and friends, his church and the many people he encountered in his work and community. He accomplished the greatest of life’s gifts by being the best husband, father and friend to those he loved and who loved him. His capacity for love, humor, wonder, and awe added to his ability to be a strong responsible man whose wisdom imbued the world with a sense of rationality, comfort and dependability.  Mark was the sort of man anyone would be proud to emulate in so many ways.

As a Christian, Mark lived his life prepared at any time to stand in front of God and say, “I’ve lived my life in your guidance and in your honor.”  And all of us who knew him, have no doubt he has walked through the gates of Heaven.

He lives in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be sorely missed.
