Marjorie McCarty Massenburg, 90, of Macon, Georgia passed away Friday, October 6, 2023. A private funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by a private burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Daughter of the late William Eugene McCarty and Marie Smarr McCarty, Margie was born on September 30, 1933, in Unadilla, Georgia. She was a proud graduate and long time supporter of Wesleyan College and devoted her life to serving her community through various associations.
A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime active member of Christ Episcopal Church and then subsequently at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, serving on their Flower Guild for 25 years. In addition, Margie served as a board member of Appleton Church Home, The Macon Ballet Guild and The Medical Auxiliary. Her love for the arts and culture was evident through her many decade membership in the Morning Music Club and the History Club of Macon. She was a member of the Shirley Hills Garden Club and Idle Hour Country Club. She also held the distinguished role as the president of the Junior League of Macon, leading with a selfless spirit and a passion for progress.
Margie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeni Massenburg of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; son, Brother Massenburg of Newnan, Georgia (Alice Ann); grandchildren, Robert Massenburg Jr. (Allison) and Elizabeth Massenburg; and great granddaughter Ivy Roman.
In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Yellott Massenburg, Jr.
