Mrs. Wells was born on February 12, 1927, to the late Hattie and Clyde Sumner in Vilas, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harrold Wells, son, Marshall Keith Wells, and brothers, Edmund Sumner, Lewis Sumner, Amos Sumner and Carl Sumner.

After graduating as Salutatorian of her graduating class in Liberty County, Florida, Mrs. Wells moved to Macon in 1945 to attend the Macon Business School to study accounting.  While in Macon she met and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Wells.  She went on to work in her chosen profession with various businesses and retired from Barney A. Smith Motors. She prepared individual income taxes for many clients.

Mrs. Wells loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She loved being involved in the community and was a member of the Annie Martin community club. She was in the first group of women in 1987 who were allowed to join the Jones County Lions Club and after 25 years of membership she was given the 25th Century Club Award.  She was honored in 2017 with the Lions Club Hall of Fame Award.

Mrs. Wells learned to be conservative and had a tough but caring nature.  Growing up she lived without electricity, lived through World War II, and learned to rely on the family farm.   She was an excellent seamstress, loved to garden and travel, as well as swim with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved visiting her family in Florida and spending time at Mexico Beach.

After joining Elam Baptist Church in September 1954, she was passionate about her Church work.  She loved holding various offices, teaching classes and being involved in WMU (Women’s Missionary Union). Only God knows what and how much through the years she has given for her passions.

Mrs. Wells was known as a compassionate and non-judgmental southern lady who cared deeply.  She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed.
