Lowell Scott Belk

On Monday, April 19, 2021, Lowell Scott Belk, beloved son, and father, passed away at the age of 59. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery, 156 Philadelphia Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30252 with the Reverend Gary Boggs officiating.  The family will greet friends Thursday, April 22, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hart’s at the Cupola.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 5962 Zebulon Road, PMB 359, Macon GA 31210 or donor’s favorite charity.

“Scotty” was born Thursday, October 19, 1961, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Lowell and Nancy Belk.  He attended school at First Presbyterian Day School and then college at Georgia Southern University.  After this, he received a master’s degree in Public Administration from Georgia College and State University.  He raised one son, Justin Belk, whom he adored.  Scotty dedicated his career to public service, first as an officer with the Macon Police Department, then 19 years as a parole officer with the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole, where he ultimately served as Chief, and finally as a specialist with the state Department of Labor, where he retired in 2019.  Highlights of his career included working security at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and the 2004 G8 Summit at St. Simons Island, where he met President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.  He had a passion for all things coastal, and he particularly loved deep-sea fishing. 

Scotty is survived by his son, Justin Belk, MD (Taylor Belk, DVM); his parents, Lowell and Nancy Belk; brother, Chris Belk (Kristine); nieces, Marli Belk and Kyndall Belk; great nephew, Fischer Jones.
