“Judge” Bob Hershner, 78, of Macon, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Hart’s at the Cupola. The family will greet friends following the service. A private Inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
Bob was born on January 21, 1944, in Sumter, South Carolina. He served his country as a Captain in the United States Army in Vietnam, and served at EUCOM headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. He graduated from Mercer University Law School as an undergraduate in 1966, and then attended Walter F. George School of Law where he graduated in 1969. Bob worked as a Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court from 1980 to 2008.
He was on the Board of the Federal Judicial Center (March 2001 for a 4 year term), Research Committee of the Federal Judicial Center (2001-2005), Georgia Bar Association, National Conference Of Bankruptcy Judges (1988-1997,) and Federal Judicial Center’s Committee on Bankruptcy Judge Education (1990-1999). Bob received the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, President’s award in 2000.
Bob is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sally Sinclair Hershner, of Macon; sons, Bryan Hershner of Stuart, Florida, and Andy Hershner, of Macon; and two grandchildren, Marcus and Trenton Hershner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Franklin Hershner, Sr. and Druie Goodman Hershner; sister, Kathy Hershner Hanna, and daughter-in-law, Staci Hershner.
