Jean James Zerkus

Jean James Zerkus, 84, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Mark Magoni officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean and Norm’s name to Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia 31210.

Daughter of the late Homer Ellis James and Gertrude Gresham James, Jean was born in Macon, on May 8, 1938.   She graduated from AL Miller High School in 1956.  She married her high school sweetheart, Norm, in 1956, and together they raised three children.  Jean was a homemaker for several years before starting her working career in 1965.  She worked at Mercer University and the Office of Personnel Management.

Jean enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, and going fishing.  She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her children, Chris Zerkus (Maggie) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jimmy Zerkus (Marian) of Eatonton, Georgia, and Debbie Sleister (Ronnie), of Macon, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Morgan Jones, Michael, Matt, Will, Liz, Joe, and Madison; and one great-grandchild.
