Janelle Bridges Obituary

GRAY, GA – Janelle Greene Bridges, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Monday, May 2, 2022. Born in Gray, Georgia on March 29, 1939, to the late Milton and Lizzie Ida Greene. She considered it a blessing to call Gray home her entire life. She attended Jones County High School and graduated in 1957. She was active in school activities including cheerleading, Beta Club, Glee Club and was chosen Miss Jones County. After graduating with honors, she attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career began at Gray Elementary where she taught 3rd grade. She later served as a 1st grade teacher at Jonesco Academy.

She was baptized and served as a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Gray. She served many roles at FBC including WMU Director, Betty Faith Circle, “Big A” Club and many other mission-related and outreach services of the church. Her social and community activities included Pilot Club of Jones County and the Daughters of the American Revolution where she faithfully recognized service to her country from the founding fathers and extending to those in military service and veterans.

Janelle had a love of life and enjoyed traveling with her husband Al and friends. During their travels they visited almost every state in the union and five continents. In addition to travels with friends, Janelle was most excited about trips to the beach with her family. She always wanted her family to enjoy good food and fellowship with special emphasis on details like a beautiful sunset over the water. Her passions in life were her family, her church, and her students. She always made holidays memorable including special traditions.  Her devotion to her church included making sure everyone felt welcome. Most importantly, she wanted every child to know Jesus and learn to read. She let others see Jesus in her and she showed love and kindness to everyone.
