James W. "Jimmy" McCook, III Obituary

James W. McCook, III died February 6, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held at Highland Hills Baptist Church on Friday, February 9th at 11am with Cass DuCharme officiating. The family will greet friends after the service in the great room of the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Highland Hills Baptist Church or Hay House.

Jimmy was born on November 4, 1936, in Macon, the son of Betty Hay McCook and James W. McCook, Jr. He attended Alexander III and Lanier High for Boys. Jimmy had a wonderful childhood growing up on the Ocmulgee River, and having special friends in Shirley Hills (the other side of the river). Mr. George Rankin was a great influence on Jimmy and his love of the HAM radio - he stayed in touch with many people all of his life with the radio, and actually built one while at Lanier.

After graduating from Lanier, Jimmy went to Georgia Tech where he became “A helluva engineer” and a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. While at Tech he married the love of his life, Toni Lincoln. Upon graduation from Tech, Toni and Jimmy moved to Ft. Bragg where Jimmy was a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army. While at Ft. Bragg, their daughter Kathleen was born and two years later at Ft. Hood James IV was born. He loved both of his children so very much.

Coming back to Macon after his service years, Jimmy ran Macon Concrete Pipe Co. and started Cherokee Culvert Co. He also served on the board of directors for the Georgia Bank and Trust Company, and he was a member of the Civic Club and Idle Hour Country Club. He became dedicated to Highland Hills Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for many years and as the treasurer of the church for several years as well.

Jimmy was predeceased by his loving wife, Toni, his wonderful parents, his brother Tommy, his niece Cammie, and his precious cat, Amos Moses. He leaves behind Kathleen and Bob Hofstadter and his grandson Zack, James IV, sister Virginia and King Solomon, sisters-In-law Mimi McCook and Camilla and George Dawson, along with his beloved nieces and nephews Lee and Ann Lineberger, Lisa Lineberger, Wimberly and Richard Rader, and Thomas McCook. He also leaves behind 9 grand nieces and nephews, Sandra and Billy Anderson, who was truly more like a loving brother than a cousin, and his dear cat, Fuzzy.

The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers, Linda James, Lacandis Winslow, and Summer Causey for enriching his life and loving him like he was family. Thanks as well to the staff at Cambridge Court, and a special thank you to Denise Cauley for her love and support.

We will all miss Jimmy so very much, but we know he had a wonderful life devoted to God and family, and he is now home with Jesus and reunited with the family he missed so much. What more could we ask for than Peace and Love in Heaven?
