James "Jim" Daniel Gann

James “Jim” Daniel Gann, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 23, 2022.  The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Gables at Wolf Creek Clubhouse.  Interment will be private at Riverside Cemetery. Jim was born on February 3, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was raised in Montgomery and attended Lanier High School. After high school, Jim went to Auburn University and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma International Honor Society in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

After graduation he worked as a project engineer with Freeport Sulphur and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana where he met and married his wife, Gayle Anderson in 1957.  While working with Freeport Sulphur, they relocated to Cuba for a short period of time before returning to New Orleans where their first child was born.  In 1964, Jim and his family transferred to Macon, Georgia where he worked with Freeport Kaolin.  They enjoyed their time in Macon, but moved to Sandersville, Georgia where he became Chief Engineer for Anglo American Clay Corporation in 1974.  Jim later became the corporate head of Engineering for Omya International taking the family to Rutland, Vermont and Atlanta, Georgia. In the 1980’s, Jim helped form and was a partner in the consulting engineering firm of G.P.W.D. with offices in Macon and Atlanta. Jim loved being an engineer and throughout his career he was able to travel all over the world. He retired in Macon, Georgia in 2001 and enjoyed many years living at the Gables at Wolf Creek.

Jim adored being with his wife of 65 years, and his children and grandchildren. He and Gayle loved traveling with their friends and rooting on his Auburn Tigers.  He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas Gann and Mary Irene Miller; sister, Marion DeGrove (Buddy); and brother, George Gann (Jeanette).

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Anderson Gann, of Macon, Georgia; daughter, Beth Harmon (Tom), of Macon, Georgia; son, Jimmy Gann, of Waycross, Georgia; grandchildren: Bo Harmon (Sarah), of Atlanta, Georgia, Catherine Sanders (Matthew), of Macon, Georgia, Sam Harmon (Katie), of Macon, Georgia; and great-grandchildren, Cate and James Harmon, of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Sanders, of Macon, Georgia.
