Mr. Howard Walter, 66, of Gray, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023. Friends and family will celebrate his life at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 10, 2023 at Hart’s Mortuary Jones County Chapel with the Reverend Kreg Bryan officiating. Burial will be private at the Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, in Milledgeville, Georgia. The family will greet friends following the service.
Howard was born Aug 30, 1957, in Riverside, New Jersey. He is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Holsenbeck Walter and Major (Ret.) Billy Howell Walter of Gray, Georgia. Howard was a lifelong resident of Middle Georgia and was active in the community. He was an excellent athlete, participating in the Special Olympics since its founding in 1968. He represented the USA in two World Games in sailing, as well as other activities sponsored by the Macon-Bibb Advocacy Resource Center and local Special Olympics including bowling, basketball, equestrian and softball to name a few. Howard loved Elvis, and even impersonated him at the New Year’s Eve celebration in Macon, and the Ronnie Milsap ARC of Macon fundraiser at the Grand Opera House. Howard had many friends, and never met a stranger, epitomizing Christ-like love to everyone he met. He lived a rich and happy life.
He is survived by his sister Laura Walter Gillespie (David) of Gray; his nephews Ian and Kyle; uncles J. Scott Gillespie (Lori) and Mark W. Gillespie (Kelly); as well as numerous friends he made along the way.
