Evelyn “Sissy” Patterson, 95, of Juliette, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Macon Memorial Park in the Mausoleum Chapel, with visitation one hour prior. Chaplain Sean Beck will be officiating.
Evelyn was born in Anniston, Alabama to the late Claybron Vaughn and the late Beatrice Cook Vaughn. She graduated from Miller High School and worked as an administrator at Robins Air Force Base for 33 years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Medical Center, Navicent Health for 30 years and 50,000 volunteer hours. She was known as the “Candy Lady” in the hospital because she pushed around the goodie cart, selling 2-cent Tootsie rolls, 6-cent Fireballs, and 85-cent chocolate bars. Evelyn was a strong, completely independent woman, and was still driving her car, manual truck and mowing her lawn at the age of 95. She loved spending time manicuring her lawn and considered it to be her lawnmower therapy. She also enjoyed making ceramics and stained glass.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Archie “Pat” Otto Patterson, Jr; brothers, Claybron “Bama” Vaughn (Kathleen) and Douglas “Sonny” Vaughn (Delores).
She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Brooks (Robert), of Ivey, Georgia; nieces, Gayle Jones (Britt), of Merritt Island, Florida, Evelyn “Becky” Vaughn, of Atlanta, Georgia, Christy Mills (Phil), of Ivey, Georgia, Cheri Carlson (deceased husband, William “Chief”), of Vass, North Carolina, Cherie Vaughn, of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Pam Steele (Kyle), of Macon, Georgia; nephews, David Brooks (Jill), of Thomaston, Georgia, and Keith Brooks (Charlene), of Ivey, Georgia, David Bryant (Nikki), of Gordon, Georgia, and Stephen Vaughn (Heather), of Milledgeville, Georgia; and many great nieces and nephews.
