Eugenia “Genie” McMillan, 73, of Macon, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021. A memorial service will be held Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Hart’s Chapel on Cherry Street. The family will greet friends following the service. Graveside will be private at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kitty City Cat Rescue, 4530 Knight Rd., Macon, GA 31220.
Daughter of the late Dr. E. C. McMillan, Jr. and Genevieve Woodard McMillan, Genie graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BA in International Relations and earned her master’s degree in French from Georgia State University. She taught French at Windsor Academy, Stratford Academy, Central High School, and Mercer University. At Central High School, she was Department Chair for Foreign Languages, French Club advisor, and International Baccalaureate History teacher. She was founder and coordinator of an exchange program with Douai in northern France. For years, Genie organized trips and chaperoned students to Macon’s sister city, Macon, France.
Genie was preceded in death by her aunt, Dr. May Flewellen McMillan. She is survived by her sister, Margaret McMillan of Macon; Charlton McMillan (Shari Cookson-McMillan) of Los Angeles, California; sister, Julie Hollon (Jim) of Birmingham, Alabama; and nieces and nephews, Sean McMillan of Georgetown, California, Ella McMillan of Los Angeles, Charlton Hollon (Holly) of Birmingham, Erin Hollon of Brooklyn, New York, and Olivia Barfield (Mitchell) of Birmingham.
