Ernest Lynwood Brooking, III, formerly of Macon, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Funeral services will be private at Riverside Cemetery.
Lyn grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and attended McCallie School. Lyn's father worked at Brock Candy Company while in Chattanooga, but in 1962, he decided to purchase Crown Candy Corp. so the family moved to Atlanta. Lyn received his BBA from the University of Georgia in 1966 and worked for Crown Candy in the shipping department during the summers. While at Georgia, he entered the ROTC program and committed to two years of active duty in the US Army. He went to Quartermaster school in Virginia and then to Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. Next, he spent a year as a 1st Lt. in Vietnam.
Upon his return back home after Vietnam, he received his MBA from Auburn University. After graduation, he moved to Macon to where he served as president for the family business, Crown Candy, until his retirement in August 2001. During Lyn's time at the University of Georgia, he met Linda Faye “Missie” and they married. They shared 43 years together before Missie passed in 2010. Lyn was a devout member of the Macon Rotary Club, a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, and served on the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan College.
Lyn is survived by his daughter, Lindsey Brooking Williams (Derek) of Daphne, Alabama; grandson, Eli Williams of Daphne; twin brother, Roger Brooking (Gerri) of Forsyth, Georgia; brother, Dr. Emerson Dean Brooking (Ginny) of Turnerville, Georgia; sister, Jean Weatherford (Jimmy) of Macon; and several nieces and nephews.
