Emma Cohen Schwaber died Sunday evening November 29, 2020 at Abe’s Garden Memory Care in Nashville, Tennessee. She had just celebrated her 97th birthday on November 10th. A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia, officiated by Rabbi Aaron Rubinstein. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Congregation Sha’arey Israel 611 First street Macon, Georgia or Abe’s Garden Memory Care Center,115 Woodmont Blvd Nashville, TN.
Emma was born in Macon, Georgia. She was a lifelong member of Congregation Sha’arey Israel Synagogue. Her parents, Rachel and Max Cohen were among some of the first members. She served as past president of the Synagogue Sisterhood. She was a life-time member of Hadassah.
Emma was a businesswoman in Macon. She and her husband, Sol Schwaber, owned and operated Dixie Foods, The Linen Chest and later, two Linen Warehouses.
One of Emma’s passions was gardening and tending her flowers in her yard in Shirley Hills. She also enjoyed playing, and usually winning, bridge.
Emma was preceded in death by the husband of fifty-three years, Sol Schwaber; her siblings, Harry Cohen, Joe Cohen, Abe Cohen, Issac Cohen, Jack Cohen, Emma Cohen, Estell Dweck and Morris Cohen. She is survived by her brother, David Cohen of Vail, Colorado; her two sons, Mitchel Schwaber (Donna) of Nashville, Tennessee and Alan Schwaber (Carol) of Arlington, Virginia. She had four grandchildren, Melissa Schwaber Hawkins of Arlington, Virginia, David Schwaber of Phoenix, Arizona, Sarah Rowe of Nashville, Tennessee, and Anna Schwaber of Nashville, Tennessee, and seven great grandchildren.
