Else Dinkel McFarland Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Else Dinkel-McFarland, our loving and devoted Mother, Sister, Oma, Big Oma, and friend to all whose lives she touched on September 21, 2021.   She left us while sleeping peacefully, surrounded by family, at her residence in Knoxville, Georgia.  She was in her 81st year. The family will greet friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2021, at Hart’s Mortuary at the Cupola.

Our mother, Else was one of the strongest, most courageous, bravest, kindest, most caring, and loving women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family.  Else was born on April 1, 1940, in Erlangen, Germany, the daughter of the late Georg Dinkel and Babette (Heubeck) Dinkel in Erlangen, Germany.

She leaves behind a dysfunctional family that she was very proud of.  Else was world renowned for her uncanny ability to read people, not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is.  She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear.  She also “has eyes in the back of her head” and always knew what we were up to.

Else will be lovingly remembered by her children, Karen Dinkel - Moosman (Michael “Moose”), of Warner Robins, Georgia, Michael D. Callahan (Lisa) of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, Barbara Callahan-King, of Cochran, Georgia, John L. Callahan (Susan), of Columbia, Tennessee, and C. Lynn McFarland–Turner, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, David Brookins Dr. (Sandra), of Houston, Texas, Rachael Long, of Cochran, Georgia, April Lumley, of Cochran, Georgia, Ricky Fisher (Hailey), of Macon, Georgia, Kaitlynne Fisher, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joseph King, of Cochran, Georgia, Breanna Callahan, of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, Hannah Callahan, of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, and Zoey Turner, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Angie Manning, of Columbia, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Curry Long, of Cochran, Georgia, Carsen J. Long and Charli C Long, both from Cochran, Georgia; siblings, Albert Dinkel (Erica), of Erlangen, Germany, Erna Dinkel-Curl, of Fort Valley, Georgia, and Werner Dinkel (Ursula), of Erlangen, Germany; and nieces and nephews, Renate Fleischmann, of Erlangen, Germany, Christine Fleischmann, of Erlangen, Germany,  Birgit Fleischmann, of Erlangen, Germany, Ramona Dinkel, of Erlangen, Germany, Wolfgang Dinkel, of Erlangen, Germany, Claudia Dinkel, of Erlangen, Germany, Ramona Curl-King, of Zachary, Louisiana, Belinda Curl-Barron, of Gray, Georgia, Silvia Curl-Herring, of Yatesville, Georgia, Monty Curl, of Fort Valley, Georgia, Ronald Dinkel, of Erlangen, Germany, and Birgit Dinkel, of Erlangen, Germany.

Else was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. McFarland, Jr.; parents, Georg Dinkel and Frau Babette Heubeck-Dinkel; maternal grandparents, Johann Wolfgang Heubeck and Barbara Kech-Heubeck; and siblings, Annelore Dinkel-Fleischmann and Wolfgang Dinkel.
