David Tyler Plaxico, Doctor of Divinity, 42, of Macon, Georgia passed away on September 9, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Vineville United Methodist Church in Macon at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends immediately after the service in the sanctuary. Due to the pandemic, masks are encouraged. Reverend Jimmy Cason, Reverend Tom Carruth and Reverend John Irwin will officiate.
Tyler was born in Gainesville, Florida, son of Dr. David T. Plaxico and the late Sara Howe Plaxico.
Tyler was an Eagle Scout with Troop 19 in Macon, Georgia. He was awarded the Order of the Arrow Award. He was educated at the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated in 1998. He received a BA degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia in 2002. Dr. Plaxico was a graduate of Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Georgia with a J.D. degree in 2005. He then received a Master of Divinity Degree from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in 2009. He later received his Doctorate of Theology from Mercer University School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia in 2019.
Tyler was currently serving as CEO of Wesley Glen Ministries, a private, not for profit agency dedicated to serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He previously was a minister in the South Georgia Conference, serving at Riverside UMC in Macon, Wrightsville UMC, Byron, UMC, and Dublin UMC.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sydney and Blair Plaxico of Macon; his father, Dr. David T. Plaxico of Macon; his sister, Corbett Plaxico (Met) Lane; two nieces, Sara Frances Lane and Caroline Lane; and nephew, Charlie Lane of Carrollton, Georgia.
Tyler was a man of principles and loved his Lord very deeply. He was a strong advocate for those who were less fortunate and was a dedicated supporter of the residents of Wesley Glen in Macon. He loved his children and family unconditionally and offered spiritual guidance to those in need. He was a true Southern gentleman and will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
