Dr. Lindsey V. Heard

In loving memory of Dr. Lindsey Vernard Heard 1951-2023

Macon, Georgia- Lindsey Vernard Heard, devoted husband, loving father, and respected veterinarian, died Monday, September 4, 2023, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11 AM at Vineville Baptist Church. Burial will be private.

Lindsey was the son of the late Charles W. “Billy” Heard and Helene Mae Bullington Heard. He was also predeceased by his sister, Kathy, and his many beloved furry friends, including his “bestest boy”, his man-cat, Teddy.

Lindsey was a graduate of Lanier High School, the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. He truly loved animals and spent over 30 years as a dedicated veterinarian. In addition to building and opening Wesleyan Animal Hospital in Macon, he established the first Mobile Veterinary Clinic in Middle Georgia. Scuba diving and searching for sharks’ teeth at Fernandina Beach brought him much happiness. He also loved music- performing in a local band, “The Menagerie,” in high school and continuing to play guitar for his entire life.

Lindsey’s family was his greatest source of joy. He is survived by his cherished and devoted wife, Becky, and their family of five children- Brooke Heard, Taylor Heard (Megan), Gregg Mangum, David Mangum, and Elizabeth Mangum, and two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zack Heard. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Chuck (Lee), sister Lane, and his treasured man-cats, Mr. Simon and Baby Raymond, and grand-cats Prince and Garfield, and grand-dogs Hope and PJ.

The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to all Lindsey’s doctors and nurses in Macon, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, and Emory Hospitals Midtown and Clifton Road, for their excellent and loving care.

Lindsey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, we will always remember his unfailing love, generosity, and wisdom.
