Dr. Harry Edward Sims “Doc” passed away in peace at his home Monday, March 23, 2020 at the age of 88. He was born on March 15, 1932 in Abanda, Alabama to the late Howard E. Sims and Grace Sims.
Doc was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his brother Bobby, and grandson, Devin Day. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Sherry Sims; brother, Jerry Sims (Janice); five children, whom he loved and provided with wise guidance, Kathy Sims, Susan Sims, Harry E. Sims Jr. “Buddy”, Tracy Frost (Ron), and Steve Lindsey (Sue). He was the proud papa of Rachel Wahl, Luke Wahl, Anna Carnahan (Grant), Brandi Sims (Austin), Conner Frost, Lindsey Frost, and Trey Jones and he was blessed with three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dr. Harry Sims graduated from the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. He performed his residency at Macon Hospital. In 1958, he hung his shingle sign on the outside of an office in Fort Valley, Georgia, the beginning of a very rewarding career as a Family Medicine Doctor to a community he grew to love dearly. During his years of practice, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of Peach County Hospital for several terms. Doc retired in 2002. He will forever be remembered as Daddy, Doc, Papa Sims, Shug, and most definitely, a true and dedicated Georgia Bulldog fan. “Go You Hairy Dawgs!”
