Donald “Don” Edward Walters, Jr., 73, of Macon, died Sunday January 3, 2021. The family will be having a private memorial service due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers, Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association, PO Box 13006, Mexico Beach, FL 32410.
Don was a 1965 graduate of Lanier High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from Georgia Southwestern. Don was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force where he served as a medic stationed in Tiawan. He coached softball for his daughters and their friends for many years at North Macon Park. After 34 years, Don retired from the Bibb County Health Dept where he served as an Environmental Health Specialist. His favorite past time was vacationing and fishing at Mexico Beach, Florida and Tybee Island, Georgia. Don loved watching SEC football and relaxing with his cat, “Chip.” He was predeceased by his parents, Don and Mary Walters; daughter, Laura Walters; and brothers-in-law, Scott Turner and Cole Turner.
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nell Turner Walters of Macon; daughter, Meg Walters Canales (Leo) of Pooler, Georgia; two grandchildren, Gracen and Coral Canales, both of Pooler; brother, Matt Walters Sr. (Brenda) of Paducah, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Joe Turner (Terry) of Carrollton, Georgia; and several nieces and a nephew.
