Diane Godfrey Obituary

Diane Godfrey, 64, of Lavonia passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020.  A memorial service will be held in Bradley, Georgia, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 2:00PM at Bradley Baptist Church, with the Reverend Steve Johnson officiating.  The service will be held outdoors in front of the main sanctuary.

A second memorial service will be held in Lavonia, Georgia, Monday, October 12, 2020 at 1:00PM at First Baptist Church of Lavonia, with the Reverend Dick Patton officiating.  The service will be held in the Bridge in the Family Life Center.  The family will greet friends one hour before the service.

Diane was born in Macon, Georgia, November 25, 1955 to Harlow and Madine Boutwell.  She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Central Georgia Technical College and worked in Georgia and Michigan as a registered nurse for nearly 20 years.  She loved her career as a nurse, but in 2014, she was called to a new career and ministry as a substance abuse counselor at Heart Ministries in Lavonia, Georgia, where she worked every day to not only save her own life, but to help change the lives of others.  In February of 2020, she received her professional certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC-I).

Diane loved the Lord, she loved to laugh, she loved her friends and family and she especially loved her cats and her Coca-Cola.

Diane was preceded in death by her son, Chad Godfrey.  She is survived by her son, Rick Godfrey, Jr. (India); seven grandchildren, Macy Cofer (Kevin), Landon Godfrey, Dillon Godfrey (Trinity), Lauren Godfrey, Peyton Godfrey, Zack Godfrey and Michael Godfrey; four great-grandchildren, Nolan Cofer, Kaleb Cofer, Landon Godfrey, Jr., and Abigail Godfrey; one brother, Steve Boutwell (Melanie); nephews, Steve Boutwell, Jr. and Kevin Boutwell; uncle, Bruce Roundtree (Gwen); cousins, Alan Roundtree, Debra Thomas, and Sherry Fulwood; and life-long friend, Brenda Rumney.

To Buddy, all her loved ones at First Baptist Church of Lavonia and Celebrate Recovery and all her “Heart Girls” past and present, never forget—Linda loves you, and she’s just arrived at the picnic!
