David E. Oxley, 90, of Gray, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020. A private graveside service will be held at Elam Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Gary Thomas officiating. Son of the late Edward Franklin and Clara Pearl Upshaw Oxley in Cadwell, Georgia, Mr. Oxley served in the United States Marine Corp serving in World War II, stationed in Guam.
Mr. Oxley was a member of Elam Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He was also a member of Gideons International. Until his illness, he was an active member of the Marine Corps League. He loved gardening, sharing the fruits of his labor with everyone. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 61 years, Jean Collins Oxley, son, Randall Oxley, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and 3 step siblings.
Mr. Oxley is survived by his wife of 9 years, Ann Haskins Oxley; children, Linda Oxley Couey (Randy) of Woodstock, Georgia, Greg Oxley (Rhonda) of Gray; step daughters, Melanie Lowe and Michele Josey, both of Jones County; grandchildren, Scott Couey, Michael Couey (Ashley), Marc Couey (Leslie), Cody Oxley, Christy Lord (Jay); step grandchildren, Elizabeth Greene, Ashley Lowe, Will Josey, and James Gheesling (Libby); and 13 great grandchildren.
