Conrad Edward Stapleton, 78, of Macon, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Hart’s at the Cupola.
Conrad was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the late Ernest and Beatrice Stapleton. He was a 1961 graduate of Socorro High School. He attended New Mexico Highlands University and the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Master’s in Education. He taught at Robinson High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked as the director of Special Education in Columbia County, and the director of services for Regional Education Service Agency. He retired from Education in 2005.
Conrad was an avid reader and loved books. He was a huge fan of UGA football, as well as the Dallas Cowboys. He was a purveyor of green and red chiles, and immensely enjoyed taco burgers. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and loved telling stories.
Conrad is survived by his children: Eric Stapleton (Dianna), of Superior, Colorado, Tracy Ray (Kevin), of Lincolnton, Georgia, Clinton Hamm, of Macon, Georgia, Wesley Hamm (Leslie), of Evans, Georgia, and Colin Stapleton (Amy), of Juliette, Georgia; grandchildren: Jake Stapleton, Dalton Ray, McKenzie Ray, Garrett Hamm, Cailyn Stapleton, Chloe Hamm, Claire Hamm, Zoe Stapleton, and Annabelle Stapleton; and cousin, Elfego Baca.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Stapleton; sister, Marilyn Vasquez; and brother Ernie Stapleton
