Charles Felton Kitchens, 85, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, March 16, 2020 at Hart’s, Jones County Chapel with the Reverend Jason Dillard officiating.
Mr. Kitchens graduated from Lanier High School in 1954 where he participated in track and ROTC and later attended Mercer University. He was retired from Dry Branch Kaolin with 37 years of service.
He was a longtime member of Cross Keys United Methodist Church until its closing in 2012, after which he joined Gray United Methodist Church, where he was in the Sunshine Class. He was a member of the Marshall A. Weir Masonic Lodge in Macon until moving to Jones County, when he transferred his membership to the Sincerity Lodge.
He was a gifted athlete, playing semi-pro baseball in his early years, and participating in city and church league softball for 36 years. He was skilled in art, house painting, and sign lettering. His stories are legendary among friends and family, and his sense of humor will be deeply missed.
Mr. Kitchens is predeceased by his father, Charles Felton Kitchens, Sr., his mother and step-father, Lena Woodward Hutson and Harry Hutson, Sr., and brother, John M. Hutson.
Mr. Kitchens is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Dillard Kitchens of Jones County; daughter, Cheryl Marie Spires (David) of Jesup, Georgia; son, Alan Felton Kitchens (April) of Macon; six grandchildren: Christy Beckom (Keith), Nathan Spires (Faith), Brandon Spires, Taylor Pollock, Caleb Pollock, and Haleigh Pollock; great granddaughter, Piper Rose Pollock; sister, Harriett Cumbee (Harold) of Summerville, South Carolina; brother, Harry M. Hutson (Donna) of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
