Betty Jean "Nanny" Colvin, 82, of Gray, passed away at her residence on Friday, February 19, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the Jones County chapel of Hart’s Mortuary with the Reverends Donnie Melton and Danny Mundy officiating. Burial will be at Gordon Family Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 4364 Upper River Road, Gray, GA 31032.
Betty Jean was born in Jones County to the late Samuel Earl McElheney and Gladys Estelle Gordon McElheney. She was a 1956 graduate of Jones County High School. She was retired from Robins Air Force Base. Betty Jean was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church that originated at her home. She participated in instruction throughout the history of the church. Nanny was a woman who lived her faith daily and whose loving nature had no bounds. She loved anyone she came in contact with but especially loved her community, her church, her family, and above all else, the Lord. Betty Jean was predeceased by her brother, Sammy McElheney and five other infant siblings, and her great grandchild, Christopher Roberts.
Betty Jean is survived by her three children, Earl Colvin (Beth), Pam Sightler (Stevie), and Vonnie Yawn (Ken); eight grandchildren, Amy Thompson (Eric), Amber Roberts (Mark), April Thalongsengchanh (Kam), Haley Fields, Steven Sightler, Kenny Yawn, Mackenzie Yawn, and Sam Yawn; nine great grandchildren, Jacob, Jaden, Kamber, Keagan, Hayden, Baylee, Laythan, Madison, and Will; three great great grandchildren, Tempy, Mason, and Hudson; sister, Barbara Hodges (John); and sister-in-law, Wylene McElheney.
