Mr. Albert Blassingame, 79, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Hart’s Chapel of the Cupola, with visitation following the service. The family kindly requests that all attendees wear masks. However, the service will be closed to the public, but will be live streamed on Hart’s Mortuary’s Facebook page. Mr. Blassingame's final resting place will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Mr. Blassingame was born in Seneca, South Carolina on April 30, 1942. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War ultimately obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he would go on to work at Rite Way Cleaning Service, where he retired as a district manager.
Mr. Blassingame is survived by his wife, Annie Ponder Blassingame; children, Sandra Blassingame Marshall, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Alvin “Lil Al” Jones (Cassandra), of Austell, Georgia; Mary G. Smith (James), of Starr, South Carolina; Sheila Chatmon, of Fortson, Georgia; Dr. Roddrick L. Chatmon (Brenda), of Lizella, Georgia; goddaughter, Chayla “Lisa” Kendrick, of Fortson, Georgia; grandchildren, Anthony Blassingame, Cortez Brown, Andrew Jones, Gace Jones, Devonta Jones, Courtney Marshall, Robert L. Marshall, III, Leslie Ann Gapasin, Ravyn L. Chatmon, Roddrick “RJ” Chatmon, Jr., and Ryan L. Chatmon; great grandchildren, Michael Blassingame, Norlani Blassingame, Xavier Blassingame; brothers, Luther Blassingame, Jr. (Bertha), of Seneca, South Carolina, Sammy L. Blassingame (Lenore), of Macon, Georgia, Mack Blassingame (Shirley), of Seneca, South Carolina, Randy Blassingame (Beverly), of Westminster, South Carolina and Eugene Johnson (Vera), of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda S. Blassingame, of Macon, Georgia; sisters, Shirley Blassingame McCauley, of Seneca, South Carolina, and Anita Whitfield (James), of Elgin, South Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Blassingame was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Sr. and Alma Blassingame; sister, Bernice Blassingame; six brothers, Odell Blassingame, James Blassingame, Clarence Blassingame, Ernest Blassingame, Robert Blassingame, and Sylvester Blassingame; and son, Andre D. Jones.
