Macon

Willie "Pete" Garmon, 77, of Macon, passed away August 27, 2024.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30AM, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Chapel of Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street, with Eric Freel officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation and fellowship after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Society of American Magicians Endowment Fund, 445 Brandywine Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 or to The Brightmoor Hospice Foundation/Brightmoor Macon, 3247 Newnan Road, Griffin, GA 30223, in honor of Pete Garmon.

Pete was born on June 17, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Lewis and Jenny Mae Garmon. He married the love of his life, Marsha Lynn Bailey, thanks to the Warden, Marsha’s mother, who played matchmaker. Pete retired from the City of Atlanta Water Department as a Water Quality Control Specialist with twenty-four years of service. He also worked as an Admissions Clerk for Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia State University, and enjoyed serving people as a host at Chick-Fil-A in Stone Mountain, GA.

One of the things in his life that brought him so much joy was being a children’s magician. He loved to see the look of wonder on children’s faces when he performed his many illusions. Pete also loved collecting action figures and watching wrestling, especially Ric Flair. He was a big fan of Donna Summer, Tina Turner, the Beatles, and Elvis – all of whom he saw in concert. He loved collecting photos of both sunrises and sunsets at the beach and he traveled to Orlando to Braves Spring Training for many years.

Pete was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians (SAM). He loved “the Man Upstairs,” his family, his friends, and his psychotic cat Boo. He will be greatly missed by many.

Pete is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Marsha Bailey; his daughter, Wendy Moreland (Robert) of Macon; his grandchild, Winter Catherine Robinson (Dylan Haske) of Mableton, Georgia; his sister, Nellie Bickers of Andalusia, Alabama; and his many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Billy Garmon; and his sister, Lois Sanders.
