William Pinckney Simmons, Jr.

William Pinckney Simmons, Jr., 82, of Macon, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.  A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, with the Reverend Ben Wells officiating.  The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Hart’s at the Cupola.

Mr. Simmons was born in Macon, Georgia on September 7, 1939.  He was a graduate of Lanier High School.  He attended Duke University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.  He received his MBA from Mercer University.  Mr. Simmons proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  He completed his United States Naval training in Newport, Rhode Island, before being stationed in Hawaii as an EOD officer.  He was the president and CEO of Southern Pallet, a wood manufacturing company.

He was a longtime, faithful member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, as well a member of many clubs, including the Palaver Club, Macon Rotary Club, and Pallbearers Club.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bertha Dozier Simmons; daughter, Elsie Grace Simmons, of Madison, Mississippi; sons, Lawson Brown (Leigh), of Venice, California, Stuart Brown, of Pensacola, Florida, and Carter Brown (Stacy), of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren: Isabelle and Maggie, from Venice, California, and Garrett, Collier, Gus, and Edie, all from Pensacola, Florida; sister, Betty Sweet Ladson, of Macon, Georgia; and nieces and nephews: Bill Ladson, Charles Ladson (Ashley), Betty Sweet Atkinson (Austin), Kathryn Strickland (Matt), and Sweet Dupuy (Ben).

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, William Pinckney and Betty Sweet Simmons; son, William Pinckney Simmons, III; and brother, Charles Smith Simmons.
