William Prentice "Reb" Byrd, Sr.

April 8, 1935 — August 15, 2010

Macon- Prentice "Reb" Byrd died Sunday, August 15, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Byrd was born and educated in Macon, served with the United States Navy, and retired from Robins Air Force Base. Mr. Byrd spent most of his adult life working with young men in Macon. He began with youth in his church, coached Little League baseball and was Chapter Dad to Lloyd A. Grace DeMolay Chapter. He was a Master Mason and Past Master of Fort Hawkins Lodge #418. Mr. Byrd was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and his son, W. P. "Bill" Byrd, Jr. Mr. Byrd is survived by his daughter, Deborah Wallen, and her husband, Douglas; grandson, Robert Wallen; granddaughter, Heather Wallen; great-granddaughters , Rena' Blanchard and Lillith Fitch; sister, Doris Hutcheson. A celebration of Mr. Byrd's life begins with visitation on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 1:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, followed by a short service at 2:00PM led by Bill Hutcheson, his nephew.
