William Leon Mclendon

August 8, 1929 — May 10, 2011

Gray- William Leon McLendon, 81, of 110 Curtis James Road, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. Burial will be in the Gordon Family Cemetery, Highway 18 W, Jones County. The family may be contacted at the residence and will greet friends on Friday from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P. O. Box 515, Northampton, Massachusetts 01061-0515. Mr. McLendon was the son of the late Luther McLendon and the late Effie Mae Carter McLendon and was predeceased by his two brothers and two sisters. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and he was a wonderful husband, daddy, and grandfather. Mr. McLendon was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, retired after thirty years of service. He and his two brothers had a combined sixty-seven years of service with the armed services. His grandson, Lee, is presently serving in the United States Air Force, carrying on the family tradition of being a member of the armed services. Mr. McLendon later retired from J. M. Huber. Mr. McLendon is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Wanda McLendon; son, Dr. Bill McLendon (Karla) of Powder Springs; daughter, Cindy Adams (Ben) of Macon; daughter, Candis DeVane (Clark) of Gray; son, Brian McLendon of Jones County; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
