Dr. William H. M. Weaver

Dr. William H. M. Weaver, 88, died on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Coliseum Medical Center. Following a private burial service, the family will greet friends on Thursday, December 11 from 5 to 7 pm at Harts at the Cupola on Peake Rd. Any donations may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church, 538 Walnut St, 31201 or to The Macon Volunteer Clinic, 376 Rogers Ave, 31204. Dr. Weaver was the son of the late William Morgan Weaver, Jr and Edith Powell Weaver. He attended Macon schools, spent 2 years in the Air Corp Reserve, then returned to Macon to attend Mercer University. While at Mercer, he was a member and president of SAE fraternity, president of the Inter-Frat Council and a member of the Blue Key Honor Society. In 1948 he entered the Medical College of Ga., followed by internship at Baylor University and a three year residency at the Medical College of Virginia. His third year, he was the chief medical resident and the president of the house staff. In 1956, he returned to Macon to practice internal medicine for 35 years. Over the years, Dr. Weaver served in many positions, including Chief of Staff at the Medical Center and the Middle Ga. Hospital. His interests were: Christ Church, Idle Hour Club, the Volunteer Clinic, the Macon Rotary Club, the MedCen Board, and the United States Closed Golf Association. Dr. Weaver's lifetime mentor was his great-uncle, Dr. O.H. Weaver, who believed that medicine is a profession and not a business. Dr. O H. Weaver was the first director of the Macon Hospital when it opened in 1895 with 5 beds. Survivors include his wife, Bettie Hall Weaver, son W.H.M. Weaver, Jr (Kelly), son Neil Randolph Weaver (Katy), daughter Elizabeth Weaver Tender (Jamie), and six grandchildren: Elizabeth Weaver, Lillian Weaver, Mary Morgan Weaver, William Tender, Emily Tender, and Kate Tender.
