Hart’s Mortuary announces the services of William “Bill” Lamar Kennedy, Sr., age 91, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Bill was born in Tennille, Georgia, to the late Joe Kennedy, Sr. and Sallie Morris. Raised on a farm, Bill learned the value of hard work at an early age. As a young boy, he would sell vegetables and pork from a wagon, a testament to the hardworking spirit he carried throughout his life.
Bill later moved to Macon, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and the simple joys he loved. He retired from Armstrong after 33 years of dedicated service.
Bill enjoyed fishing, dove hunting, dancing, gardening, and working in his yard. He found great enjoyment in being outdoors and staying busy, and he cherished the time spent doing the things he loved. He was a faithful member of Strong Rock Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Boyd, and his stepson, Marvin Mangrum.
He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory in their hearts, including his son, William “Billy” Kennedy, Jr.; daughters, Angela Purvis (Danny) and Kathy Williamson (Steve); daughter-in-law, Glynis Mangrum; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Heartland Hospice and Pruitt Wesleyan for the compassion, kindness, and wonderful care they provided to Bill and his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street, with Pastor Lewis Lowery officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
