William "Bill" Jay Holder

William "Bill" Jay Holder, 88, of Macon, passed away, Sunday, May 8, 2022.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel with the Reverends Jason Dillard and John Haney officiating.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be held at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville following the service at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clinton United Methodist Church, 116 Jefferson St, Gray, GA 31032 or Al Sihah Shrine Center, P.O. Box 3147, Macon, GA 31205-3147.

Son of the late Ernest Jay and Ruby Bass Holder, Bill was born in Eastman, Georgia.  After graduating high school in Cochran, Georgia, Bill served 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a helicopter mechanic.  After his service in the Navy, he worked as an electrician at Wilson Electric for 7 ½ years.  He then went on to work at J.M. Huber Corporation for 24 years before retiring.

Bill was a member of the Shriners organization.  One of his greatest achievements was participating in the transportation of 50 children to the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.  He was a devoted member of the Royal Order of Jesters, in which he recently received his apron for his 65 years of service for the Freemasons.  Bill was also a member of the American Legion Post in Gray, Georgia.  He belonged to Clinton Methodist Church where he participated in many church activities.

Bill was a devoted fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed planting in his garden, and enjoyed spending time with birds and chipmunks that lived in his yard.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rose Pickett Holder and brother, Jack Holder and his wife, Ann.

Bill is survived by his daughter, LuJean H. Lamb (James), of Macon; grandsons, Landon Lamb (Deanna), of Odessa, Florida, and Logan Lamb, of Macon, Georgia; youngest brother, Terry Holder (Brenda); and many nieces and nephews.
