William  “Bill” James Simmons, 81, of Gray, GA, passed away on September 14, 2021, at his residence after a long battle with kidney disease. Bill was born July 23, 1940, in Dry Branch, Twiggs County, GA.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diana Allen Simmons, and two children and their spouses: Caroline Simmons Pope (Howard) and John Allen Simmons (Christi) and grandchildren: Hillary Pope, Emily Pope, Alyson Pope, and Maeci Simmons.

Bill had a 21-year career in the military beginning at age 17. He served in the Navy and switched to the Army after 3 years, retiring in 1978. During this time, he served with the 82nd Airborne and Special Forces. He also was a proud Vietnam veteran. After his military retirement, he and his wife owned and operated Diamond Acres Holstein dairy in Jones County. He was a man of many talents and enjoyed creating welding projects in recent years.

Bill was an active member of Clinton United Methodist Church and American Legion. He was an avid golfer and member of local senior groups. He could always light up a room and was loved by all. Bill embraced all new adventures and lived life to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved his family more than anything.

A private graveside service was held September 16, 2021, at Highview Cemetery in Gray, GA.
