William Fred Harvey, Sr., 90, of Gray, Georgia died Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204 or to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204. Fred Harvey was a quiet disciple who always thought of others before himself. He was self-taught and hardworking, never complained and never took shortcuts. He did things the right way. He used his numerous talents throughout his life to help others any way he could. He lived in Macon all of his life. Fred was drafted into the Army during his senior year of high school and served as a corporal in WWII. He returned home to complete high school at Lanier where he lettered in football, baseball and ran track. Fred married Winifred Phillips his longtime sweetheart in 1949; and played semi-pro baseball until they started their family. He worked days while teaching vocational school at night and was president of the local #472 Plumbers/ Steamfitters Union. He retired from Robertshaw. Fred was an active member of Cross Keys Methodist Church until its closing then became an active member of the Riverside Methodist Church. Mr. Harvey was predeceased by his wife of sixty four years, Rose Winifred Harvey and survived by his children, Bill Harvey (Marisa), Elaine Garcia (Roy), and Delia Bridges (Jeff); grandchildren, Charles Bridges (Meredith) and Ross Bridges (Candace); sisters, Helen Jackson and Patti Goodrich; great-grandchildren, Rho and Ellis.
