Macon- William D. "Bill" Yancey, 74, of Macon, died Monday, October 12, 2009. Services will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, with the Reverend Jimmy Towson officiating. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at the funeral home. Mr. Yancey was born in Wilkinson County. He was the son of the late Thomas Alton Yancey and the late Wilma Florence Yancey. He was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Y. Sheffield and three brothers, Tommy Yancey, George Yancey and Donald Yancey. Mr. Yancey was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Chapman Sunday School Class. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base after thirty-three years of service. Mr. Yancey was past Master of Marshall A. Weir Masonic Lodge #448, past Master 1984, Sixth Masonic District, and past Sovereign and past Treasurer of New Covenant Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He was a 33rd degree Inspector General Honorary of the Supreme Council of the Southern Jurisdiction Scottish Rite Bodies, past Trustee Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, GA and past Trustee and Trustee Emeritus Greenville Shriners' Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC. He was Transportation Chairman, Al Sihah Shrine Temple, transporting children to Shriners' Hospitals. Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife, Joan M. Yancey of Macon; brother, Wayne F. Yancey of Dublin; sister, Blanche Land (Victor) of Macon; sister-in-law, Madeline M. Adams of Macon; brother-in-law, Gene Mullis (June) of Dublin; several nieces and nephews.
