William Gardner "Bill" Adams, Sr. Macon- William Gardner "Bill" Adams Sr., 88, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, following an extended illness. Graveside services will be at 11:00AM Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Riverside Cemetery with the Reverend Chip Miller officiating. The family will greet friends Monday, August 31, 2009 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 682 Mulberry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201. Mr. Adams graduated from Lanier High School and attended Mercer University. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he was President of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Northwestern University Officer's Training School and served as Captain of the Naval Minesweeper, the Trident, during World War II. Following the war, Mr. Adams began his business career at the family owned Taylor Iron Works & Supply Company. The company was founded by his Grandfather, William A. Taylor. He retired as Secretary & Treasurer following the sale of the business. He was President of Mid-Georgia Industrial Sales, Inc., a family held business in Macon until his retirement. Mr. Adams was a member of the Macon Historical Society, Intown Macon, Macon Kiwanis Club, the Macon Touchdown Club, a founding member of the Cullasaja Country Club in Highlands, North Carolina and a long-time member of Idle Hour Country Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Macon. He and his late wife, Ginny, often made their formal gardens available for tours to benefit Historic Macon. Their home can be found in many publications of historic residences here in Macon. Mr. and Mrs. Adams were also residents of their summer home in Highlands, North Carolina, entertaining both family and friends there for many years. Mr. Adams was an avid supporter of the University of Georgia Athletic Department and Football Program. He was a beloved father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all. The Adams Family would like to express our sincere gratitude to his wonderful caregivers, Dora Clayton, Ida Cooks, Audrey Stephens, and Ruby Paudo for their constant and devoted service, and to our devoted Thelma Willis who assisted the Adams family for many years. Mr. Adams was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Elbridge Adams, Sr. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) Adams and grandson Robert B. Adams, and brother, F.E. Adams, Jr. He is survived by his sons, William G. Adams, Jr. (Irene) and Wade T. Adams, Sr. (Joan); his grandchildren, Bonnie A. von Hausch (Greg) of St. Augustine, Florida, William G. Adams, III (Tammy) of Cedartown, Georgia, Jennifer A. Rives (Sydney Rives IV) of Smyrna, W. Taylor Adams, Jr., and Jonathan T. Adams of Macon; and one great grandchild, Soleil von Hausch of St. Augustine, Florida.
