William Ballek

October 4, 1920 — October 24, 2008

William "Bill" Ballek, 88, of 1633 Wesleyan Drive died on Friday, October 24, 2008, at Heartland Hospice.

Bill served with the 10th Mountain Division (ski troops) in Italy during World War II as 1st Sgt. of F Company, 85th Regiment. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, 2 Bronze Stars, 4 Battle Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.

A member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church and the Marshall Sunday School class, Bill was past president of the Vine-Ingle Lions Club and past District Governor of District 18 E of Lions International.

Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Martha Tyner Ballek, Bill is survived by 3 daughters, Tina Singleton, Donna Scarborough and Billie Barnes; 3 grandchildren, Amy Poland, Julie Shattuck and Nathan Barnes; 4 great-granddaughters, Alex, Payton and Molly Poland, and Brianna Barnes; 2 sisters, Margaret Durns and Irene Pavlica.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1160 Forsyth Street, Macon 31201; the Georgia Industrial Children's Home, 4710 North Mumford Road, Macon 31210; or donor's favorite charity.

Special thanks to the staffs at Wesleyan Cottages and Heartland Hospice, with appreciation to caregivers Pepper Carstarphen, Janice Floyd and Alberta Roberson.

Memorial services will be held at the Cottages on Wesleyan, 1633 Wesleyan Drive, at 3:00 PM, Monday, October 27, 2008.
